Macken Street

Dublin, Ireland

Located at a key junction in Dublin’s Grand Canal area, this design reimagines a former blacksmith’s forge as a live / work corner marker that completes a fragmented urban block.

A bold geometric form defines the site, with a chamfered edge to address the neighbouring terraces and reduce overshadowing. An active street frontage at ground level engages the public realm.

Brick and metal cladding reference the site’s heritage, while louvered facades and a green roof support environmental performance. A “sky balcony” directs views upward, protecting privacy without compromising light or space. This clear, confident intervention completes the urban block with a respectful, modern presence on an important crossroads.
