Yeatman Court

London, United Kingdom

The historic 1918 art deco building, originally Yeatman’s Sweet Factory and later the headquarters of Mothercare, has been transformed into 145 affordable homes in North Watford.

HKR Architects preserved the building’s heritage while integrating modern, sustainable design elements. The project features an upward extension with 22 additional 1 and 2 bedroom units.

Careful attention was given to energy efficiency with solar panels, enhanced insulation, and double-glazed windows. To maintain the building’s aesthetic, metal-framed back-painted glass panels were used to hide residential partitions and reduce solar heat, while still matching the original glazing. A communal garden and sustainable transport options, including electric vehicle charging points, enhance the development.
